Saif Al-Islam, the son of of Former Libyan leader, Col. Muammar Gadaffi has been sentenced to death by a Libyan court over war crimes during the 2011 revolution which led to the toppling of the Gadaffi regime.
Former Prime Minister, Baghdadi al-Mahmoud as well as Abdullah Senussi, Gaddafi’s former intelligence chief were also sentenced to death.
Saif Al-Islam, held by a militant group who have refused to give him up was sentenced in absentia. Although the International Criminal Court has voiced concerns about the conduct of the trial, it is important to note that the death sentence can be appealed.
