After months of speculation and allegations, The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has disclosed that Sulfur mustard gas was used by militant groups in the town of Marea.
The chemical attack took place in August and a statement by the The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Director General said, “The team was able to confirm with utmost confidence that at least two people were exposed to sulfur mustard, and that it is very likely that the effects of this chemical weapon resulted in the death of an infant”
Although the report does not state which group used used the chemical weapon but Reuters News Agency reports the weapon was used in clashes between IS and another rebel group.
Mustard gas is a chemical weapon which causes severe damage to the skin, eyes and respiratory system and internal organs.
